Chelsea have been heavily linked with a move for Cagliari’s Nicolo Barella even before and after Cesc Fabregas’ departure to Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco.
Maurizio Sarri has insisted that the Blues hierarchy should get him a suitable replacement in midfield if Cesc Fabregas was allowed to leave the club and one of such names that have popped up is Nicolo Barella.
However, reports emerged that the Italian midfielder is not keen to make the big move at this time due to his age and this has been given credence by a recent statement from Cagliari’s director Mario Passetti.
“We continue to talk about him, we do interviews and issue statements, but evidently we’re not being clear enough: we reiterate that [Barella] will stay for at least for the next six months. After that, we’ll see what happens in the summer. We have big ambitions and Nicolò gives 1000 percent in every training session and he’s happy to be at Cagliari. Selling him isn’t one of our objectives.”
It appears that the Blues won’t see any headway in this deal. However, another name that’s trending and being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in January is Argentine midfielder Leandro Paredes whose playing style is a bit similar to that of Cesc Fabregas.
