N’golo Kante has extended his stay at Chelsea by signing a 5-year contract with the club
Kante joined Chelsea from Leicester in 2016 and has gone on to establish himself as one of Chelsea’s key players, and has also been decent under new boss Maurizio Sarri.
Chelsea announced the deal on their official website: “N’Golo Kante has today extended his stay at Stamford Bridge by signing a new five-year contract.”
The player added: “I’m happy to extend my time with Chelsea. It has been two beautiful years and I wish for more to come.”
“Since I came, I completely improved as a player, challenged myself and got some awards I never thought about.”
Kante has been instrumental in Chelsea’s recent successes but he has been deployed in an unfamiliar role under new boss Maurizio Sarri.
It remains to be seen if the long-term contract is to increase his potential transfer fee or to keep him at the club as he has not been exceptional in his new attacking role as opposed to his traditional defensive midfield role.
This has brought doubts that Sarri may not really need the midfielder. Regardless, the new deal has made things interesting and we await future developments surrounding the player’s future at Stamford Bridge.
